Take it From Me...

This blog will focus on the adventures and misadventures of all things “nanny.”

Tips will be shared, advice will be given and precious moments with my loves will be archived away to make room for new memories.

I have been a professional nanny for the last 10 years. I have worked with families with children of all ages and love them all. I would be remiss if I didn’t confess that there’s a special spot in my heart for toddlers. Yes. Toddlers. Toddlers are not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoy fostering a sense of imagination and creativity in them. Toddlers live in a world where anything is possible. They are not yet jaded by the reality of elementary school where you learn that Santa isn’t real or that your uncle on the other side of the country isn’t actually building you a candy store made completely out of candy complete with a Twizzler slide used to gain entrance into the magical candy land.

Toddlers have their moments, I assure you. The terrible two’s are a real thing. Sometimes it’s disguised as the the terrible three’s and if it’s not dealt with can lead to a lifetime of “terrible” behavior.

I have dealt with almost every situation imaginable. I have turned many employers into family and I love the work I do for that, among other reasons.

I have my own ideas about how children should be raised and how different situations should be handled, but (for the most part) that’s not what I am there for. As a childcare provider, I provide childcare in the absence of a parent. My goal is to adapt to the parent’s parenting style as much as possible. Children need consistency.

When I am not working, I have my own life. I am thankful for that. Not every nanny can say that. Some nannies are “on call” 24/7 without the paycheck to back it up. That’s an abusive relationship.

I currently work with a fantastic family that I am proud to be a part of. I enjoy going to work every day (even with the 5am wake up time) and I miss the kids during long weekends and vacations. I love getting pictures and video clips of the kids when I am not with them. Those long weekends and vacations are absolutely necessary though. Everyone needs a little break from time to time. It helps me appreciate my family and they are always excited to see me too when the break is over.

Please feel free to send me any questions you may have about childcare and all things “nanny.”

Best,

Meredith
